Situated 332 m above sea level, this town is called “The Place of the Small Lala Palms” or “ Emlalani”. This new town was established in 1949 and became a municipality in July 1990. Malelane is the center of the sugar growing industry in Mpumalanga.

A small village situated between Malelane and Komatipoort has a renowned name for the production of sugar. This village is apparently named by two railway engineers , whose dog ,Hector, died in the area after being bitten by a teste fly. Salisbury kop , a hill nearby this village resembles the profile of Lord Salisbury.

:: Komatipoort
The town is named after the “ poort” or the place where the River of cows ( Crocodile and Komati rivers ) combine together to flow into Mozambique.. The bridge over the Komati river , built in 1891, is still in use today and is serving as the main line from Gauteng to Mozambique and beyond. Komatipoort has one of the major railway terminals which link up to Swaziland. Situated near to Mozambique border , this town has a large grove of fever trees which creates a special and interesting light effect in bright sunlight.
